I write in connection with your request for information that was received by the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire (OPFCC) on 8th September 2021. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in providing you with a response.

I note you seek access to the following information:  

Please supply me with data relating to fires on balconies on residential buildings in your area, as follows; 

  • How many fires involving balconies occurred between 1st August 2020 and 31st July 2021? 
  • In the same period, how many building fires occurred where balconies were found to have contributed to the external spread of the fire? 
  • Please provide data on the causes of any fires that started on balconies (i.e.; barbecue, discarded cigarette, electrical appliance fault, etc) and please provide the number of occurrences for each cause.

I can confirm that a search has been undertaken of the system to include the narrative of incidents recorded in order to be able to identify any such incidents as per the above criteria given for this search.

The result of this search has concluded that there have been zero identifiable cases as per the above criteria in the time period as requested.
