Interpreting Services Provided to NYP

Question/ Request:

Specifically, I would like to request the following information for the most recent contractual period:

1. The rates charged by dals for interpreting services, including:

Hourly rate

Half-day rate

Full-day rate

2. The rates for travel time and mileage reimbursements, if applicable.
3. The cancellation policy, including:

The cancellation cut-off period before charges apply

The fees charged for cancellations depending on the notice period

4. Any additional fees that may be applicable, such as:

Out-of-hours, weekends or Bank Holiday assignments

Urgent requests

Any other surcharges

Additionally, I am seeking clarification regarding the contract between your police force and dals for interpreting services. 

Specifically, I would like to understand whether there is a restrictive clause in place that prohibits your police force from directly contacting interpreters on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) when dals is unable or unwilling to provide an interpreter due to lack of will to take a slight dent in their profit margin.

It has come to my attention that, in such situations, police officers handling cases are not permitted to call upon qualified interpreters with the necessary clearances to assist, even when this leads to delays in serving justice and risks exceeding the custody time limits for detainees. 

Could you confirm whether such a restriction exists within the contract?

If available, I would appreciate receiving this information in a structured format, such as a table or spreadsheet.

Should any part of my request be subject to exemptions under the Act, I kindly request that you provide as much information as possible and clearly specify the reasons for any redactions or exclusions.

Additionally, I would like to emphasise that my personal details are protected under data protection laws.

I wish to advise you that there is no information held by the OPFCC in order to answer your request.

This is because the information is held by North Yorkshire Police and not the OPFCC.
