Freedom of Information request reference number: NY09724

I write in connection with your request for information that was received by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, Policing, Fire and Crime Team (PFC) on the 20th June.

Question/ Request:

Thank you for the copy of the report into Neighbourhood Policing in York and North Yorkshire.

I could have predicted the top public request in the survey – visible police patrols so I wish to query just what can be expected in York from the increase in Neighbourhood Police Officers in 2026 upto 37 PCs and 40 PCSOs for the York and Selby Area.

How many of those officers are committed to York?

How many are expected to be on duty at any one time taking into account rest days/holidays/training days?

What is the split between day/night NPT officers on duty?

What is the geographic split in York for the teams?

Taking the Osbaldwick & Derwent Ward as an example how many NPT officers are on duty across the ward on any given day/night currently and how many will there be in 2026?

How many NPT officers are currently engaged in visible foot patrols across the Osbaldwick and Derwent Ward compared to the numbers in 2026?

Are there any plans to ‘embed’ NPT officers in the communities they are serving by introducing ‘satellite’ police stations out in the community?

Are there any plans to introduce the use of community buildings as rest/comfort stops for officers on duty in the community as I’m sure the administrators of community buildings would be only too pleased to have police coming and going day and night at these buildings?

I would hope these questions would be enthusiastically answered by NYP but of course if they have to be then please consider this an FOI request.

Whilst pleased to see that NYP have recognised that Neighbourhood Policing needs attention and extra officers will be around in 2026 what is to be done at the moment?
