Chief Constable recruitment
Dates are known only up until final interview, with a decision on a preferred candidate made soon afterwards. The start date of a new Chief Constable will not be known for some time given the requirement for a ‘confirmation hearing’ by the Police and Crime Panel, as well as practicalities such as notice periods, etc.
Commenting on the recruitment process, Julia Mulligan said, “I am pleased to be able to set out the recruitment timetable and hope to make a decision by the end of July. I am very much looking forward to hearing candidates’ ideas and views on how they see the service developing for the people and communities of North Yorkshire.
As we all know, North Yorkshire is a fantastic place to live and work, so I’m pleased that we’ve already had a number of informal enquiries from interested candidates. As I hope I demonstrated when I recruited Dave Jones, I very much welcome applicants from different backgrounds and areas of the country. They will of course need a firm commitment to local, community-based policing, along with an exemplary service record. Interested candidates are very welcome to visit North Yorkshire and we will have an ‘open door’ policy. In the first instance, please contact Eve Mortimer in my office, who will be happy to help.
“In the meantime, with her strong public service ethos, I have every faith that Temporary Chief Constable Lisa Winward is providing the leadership and stability North Yorkshire Police needs.”
