Gargrave playground gets Community Fund boost

Gargrave Playground Association, a local charity, has been awarded £5,000 from Julia Mulligan's Community Fund.

The £5,000 will be spent on a double perch and swings, which meets the needs of age groups from junior to teenage years. The double perch will not only be fun but supports keeping fit as well as having to work as a team.

Julia Mulligan, Police Crime and Commissioner  for North Yorkshire said: “This project is an excellent example of how my Community Fund is making a difference in communities across North Yorkshire.

“I’ve been really impressed with this ambitious plan and the support the playground receives from the local community.

“I hope that the swings and the double perch will be enjoyed by all for many years to come”

Sarah Pawson from the Gargrave Playground Association added” The provision of equipment like this in our playground is incredibly beneficial, and its important to create interest to attract young people where they can meet safely and have fun.

“For our village it has been agreed that there is a general lack of provision for families and young people and the Parish Council recognises and supports the need to create somewhere for everyone to meet and play safely.

“Playgrounds are not just a space with equipment in. They create a sense of community and belonging, and offers children and young people a place where they can play safely and have all the fun challenges a playground can provide. Playgrounds can also help with social development and support physical and emotional well being.

“For families it creates a multi-generational outdoor hub. It can reduce the sense of social isolation for both parents and grandparents who care for young families, especially for those who do not own a car or living on a low income. Our nearest play ground or indoor play is at least 6 miles away, so this project is vital for our village.

“We want to thank Julia Mulligan for this fantastic opportunity. We are so excited to see everyone’s hard work being completed and getting our new playground in.”
