As part of Anti-Social Behaviour Week, yesterday, Commissioner Zoë and her Community Engagement Officer were invited by Ryedale Community Safety Hub to join them on one of their Op Community Visits.

Op Community is a community engagement activity undertaken by Ryedale Community Safety Hub which comprises of North Yorkshire Council, Ryedale Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and other key partners to find out how safe residents feel in the local area.

Yesterday’s visit was to the village of Hovingham where local residents could approach and discuss any community concerns or issues they currently have with the team, whilst other Op Community Team members went round and did a door knock to find out if homeowners had witnessed or experienced any anti-social behaviour in the local community; have any welfare concerns; or suggestions for the Community Safety Hub to make the village safer.

Commissioner Zoë would like to thank Bridget and the whole team for allowing her to come along and experience the operation first hand.

Ryedale Councillor raises community concerns with Commissioner

North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner visits Ryedale during Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week

The Helmsley and Sinnington division representative on North Yorkshire Council, George Jabbour, met with North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Zoë Metcalfe, to draw attention to the worries that residents in rural areas have about crime, anti-social behaviour and reckless and inconsiderate driving.

The meeting took place during Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week as part of a roadshow that the North Yorkshire Council Community team and the Safer Neighbourhood Police officers organised in Hovingham, Ampleforth and Nawton.

Commissioner Zoë Metcalfe and Councillor Jabbour joined members of the Police force and officers from North Yorkshire Council outside a Mobile Police Office and spoke with local residents.

Commissioner Zoë Metcalfe said:

“Anti-social behaviour is a serious matter that comes in different shapes and forms. It does not only affect urban conurbations, but it also blights many of our rural areas. This is why I felt that it is important to be here in Ryedale during ASB Awareness Week. I was glad to meet with Councillor Jabbour and to discuss with him the issues that affect the residents that he represents within the Helmsley and Sinnington division.”

Councillor Jabbour added:

“I was delighted to join Commissioner Metcalfe together with members of North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Council speaking with local residents to raise awareness about ASB. I also expressed the gratitude that our community has for the support and engagement that we have been receiving from the dedicated team of police officers. This includes the meeting we recently had in Helmsley to answer questions from the residents, the community operation activities that they regularly carry out and the help they provided in setting up a local Community Speed Watch initiative.”
