Commenting on the HM Inspector’s Integrated Peel Assessment report, Julia Mulligan, North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said:

“It is positive that the Inspector is satisfied with most aspects of North Yorkshire Police’s performance, particularly the crucial role of preventing crime and anti-social behaviour, and that the efficiency rating is now ‘Good’ after being ‘Requires Improvement’ last time. Achieving this has taken a huge amount of effort from everyone within the organisation and I particularly want to thank those who have enabled this to happen.

What this ‘Good’ rating for effectiveness and efficiency shows is that our Transform 2020 programme is making a difference and we are improving, but there is always more to do. We should be striving to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and I will continue to work with the Chief Constable to ensure we are on track to achieve that.

“The concerns raised around the legitimacy strand are important and we agree required improvement. I am confident that some of the measures highlighted in this report have already been addressed since the Inspection, including the setting up of new external community panels looking at issues like stop and search, the use of force and domestic abuse. Nevertheless, there is always more to do.

“We are heading in the right direction. In some areas that isn’t quick enough, but we wanted to prioritise the areas that make the biggest difference to the lives of people in North Yorkshire – investigating crime, catching criminals and protecting vulnerable people. HM Inspector recognises that and I am sure they will recognise the ongoing work to improve in future inspections.”
