Youth Commission seeks new members

The North Yorkshire Youth Commission on Police and Crime are looking to recruit 14 young people to join the existing members.

This is an exciting initiative in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan. The Youth Commission is aimed at young people aged 14-25 years who want to make a difference to their community.  We’re looking for a diverse group of young people from different backgrounds and life experiences to take part, including those who have direct experience of the criminal justice system.

Police and crime commissioner for North Yorkshire Julia Mulligan said:

I instigated the Youth Commission because it was clear from my work in drawing up the Police and Crime Plan that the views of children and young people were not being heard as they should be.

North Yorkshire Youth Commission allows young people to support, challenge and inform the work of the Police & Crime Commissioner in North Yorkshire.  The Youth Commission will explore urgent issues affecting young people in North Yorkshire such as:

  • Hate Crime
  • Relationship Between Young People, the Police & Authorities
  • Mental Health & Vulnerable Young People
  • Drug & Alcohol Abuse
  • Abusive Relationships
  • Missing Young People & Exploitation

This is brilliant opportunity for young people to gain new skills, knowledge and experiences. Members of the Youth Commission will play an important role in helping to run consultation events and gather the opinions of other young people about police and crime.

All documents needed to apply for this opportunity are below. We’ve tried to make this simple and accessible for everyone. We would very much appreciate it if you could encourage any young person who you feel would benefit from this experience to apply, and support them to fill out the application if needed.

The deadline for applications is: Wednesday 13 September  2017

Questions should be directed to Kaytea Budd-Brophy, the project manager, at:
