The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner has decided to appoint Jonathan Foster as Deputy Chief Fire Officer of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Background

On Wednesday 4 September 2019, the Commissioner appointed Jonathan Foster as Deputy Chief Fire Officer. This follows a robust recruitment process which included the opportunity for partner organisations from across North Yorkshire to meet and question a strong field of candidates from across the country.

The full terms and conditions of appointment were as advertised and will be published separately as part of the Commissioner’s suite of public transparency materials.

The Commissioner’s Interim Chief Executive & Monitoring Officer has confirmed that the recruitment process was carried out by a lawful process and having read this Decision Notice in draft and having considered such information as has been provided at the time of being asked to express this view, the Interim Chief Executive & Monitoring Officer is satisfied that this Decision Notice does not ask the Commissioner to make a decision which would (or would be likely to) give rise to a contravention of the law.

Financial and Commercial
The Commissioner’s Chief Finance Officer and S151 Officer has advised that the terms of the proposed appointment are affordable within the PFCC FRA budget and delivers savings against the costs of the previous Principal Officer team, pre governance transfer.
