I write in connection with your request for information that was received by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, Policing, Fire and Crime Directorate (PFC) on the 31st January 2026

Request:

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please provide the following information for the period 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2024:
The number of privately owned electric scooters, electric unicycles, or other Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) seized by your force.
Of those seized vehicles:
how many were returned to their owner;
how many were retained but not destroyed;
how many were destroyed or otherwise disposed of.
Where the information is held, the statutory power(s) relied upon:
to seize such vehicles; and
to authorise their destruction or disposal.
Whether your force operates any written policy or guidance governing:
retention of such vehicles following seizure; and
disposal or destruction of such vehicles.
Whether any case-by-case proportionality or discretion assessment is carried out prior to disposal or destruction.
Please provide copies of any relevant policy or guidance documents if held.

To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within the PFC.

I wish to advise you that there is no information held by the PFC in order to answer your request.
