Boroughbridge Police Station to be put up for sale

Boroughbridge Police Station is to be put up for sale with the last members of staff who use the building moving out on 31 August.

It was decided that the building, which is not open to the public and frequently unoccupied, should be closed in 2013 as part of the review of North Yorkshire Police’s estate because it did not provide fit for purpose or value for money facilities.

There will be no impact on the level of policing in the town. New technology has been rolled out giving the Boroughbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team what is, effectively, a police station in their pocket. The mobile equipment means there is no need for a physical base.

When the police station building is sold, the proceeds will be reinvested in frontline policing.

North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan said:

“Based on the operational recommendation of North Yorkshire Police, now is the right time to sell the building that housed Boroughbridge’s Police Station, reinvesting the proceeds from an underused and expensive property in frontline policing.

“New ways of working mean officers are able to spend more time visible and accessible on the streets rather than having to work in buildings that are not fit for purpose and do not provide taxpayers value for money. Residents and businesses tell me this is important to them and the new technology we have invested in allows that to happen in Boroughbridge and across North Yorkshire.”
