Julia comments on the Government’s police funding announcement

Julia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, said: “I very much welcome the Government’s decision to support police funding, and clearly the government has done the right thing by listening to the concerns raised by Police and Crime Commissioners and the public we represent.

“Whilst I’m pleased that policing doesn’t now have to contend with budget cuts, I am under no illusion that savings continue to need to be made locally, given increases in pay for the workforce, rising demand and additional money being spent on national issues. Everything I do as the elected Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire is to protect and support the frontline.

“As part of the announcement, PCCs will have the option to increase the council tax by up to £12, and I would like to know what the people of North Yorkshire think. This announcement was made as I am half way through my annual public consultation which I carry out before setting the police precept and where possible I will add this question into the consultation.

“As always though, on police funding or anything else, anyone is welcome to get in touch and tell me what they think about policing in North Yorkshire.”

The survey is available until 28 January 2018 online at www.telljulia.com and paper copies will be on display at public buildings across North Yorkshire, such as police stations, libraries and council offices.
