Working better together

A new legal duty for emergency services to collaborate was passed by Parliament, which enables Police and Crime Commissioners to apply to oversee the fire and rescue service as well as the police.

From 17 July to 22 September 2017 Julia Mulligan held a public consultation asking for views on three options of governing the fire service in North Yorkshire.

On 13 June 2018 The Home Secretary  announced that Julia Mulligan, elected Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, will take on the governance of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Read more
