Jo Coles - North Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime

31 March 2015 – 840.2014-15 – Freedom of information request – Revenue received from speeding offence fines

Request

Could you possibly let me know the total revenue received in their last Financial Year by North Yorkshire Police from speeding offence fines and the re-investment made in the same year on improved road safety measures.

Response

Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information

Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police to locate relevant information.

I wish to advise you that there is no information held by the Police & Crime Commissioner or North Yorkshire Police to answer your request. This is because fixed penalty fines are paid to the HM Courts & Tribunals Service who then pay the Treasury, therefore there are no direct funds from fines to re-invest on improving road safety measures.

The Police and Crime Commissioner has however committed to publishing an Annual Report detailing the activities of the Safety Camera Van each year. This decision can be seen under the following decision notice 008/2014: Safety Camera Van Operations / Criminal Justice Traffic Processing – Produce annual report relating to safety camera operations, which is on the Police and Crime Commissioner’s website.
