Our Ref: NY10995

Freedom of Information request reference number: NY10995
I write in connection with your request for information that was received by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, Policing, Fire and Crime Directorate (PFC) on 17 July 2026
Question:
Do you commission a service to support women who have experienced sexual exploitation and/or who are involved in the sex industry?
If yes:
How much funding is provided?
Is this funded via a particular funding stream?
Is the funding specifically for support for those who have experienced sexual exploitation and/or who are involved in the sex industry, or is this part of a wider service (e.g. a sexual assault service that also supports those who have experienced sexual exploitation)?
Response:
To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within the PFC.
I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by the PFC.
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you.
Within the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority whilst we do not currently have a commissioned service solely dedicated to those involved in the sex industry, we do have a range of services available which can help support women who have experienced sexual exploitation and/or who are involved in the sex industry as part of our wider service provision under our VAWG strategy.
This starts with our dedicated in-house Supporting Victims team Victim Support | Supporting Victims in North Yorkshire who can support a range of victims and vulnerable people along with identifying further support pathways as required.
In addition to this our office funds a number of commissioned services Commissioned services – York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority – Policing, Fire and Crime Team. Some of these services are secured using grant monies obtained from the Ministry of Justice / Home Office and are aligned to the objectives within our police and crime plan ( YNY-CA-Police-and-Crime-Plan-AW_converted-Single-Pages.pdf ) and are allocated using an evidence-based approach and within the parameters of the grant money allocation criteria as set by central government.
We also have a number of funding streams available to any individual(s) or organisation(s) that would be interested in working specifically with our office, details of which can be found here :- Funding a community project – York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority – Policing, Fire and Crime Team or with the wider Combined Authority here:- Funding York and North Yorkshire
