- Richard and Joan, Easingwold, Equality
Recent media reports state that Chief Constables have issued advice as to treat people differently according to their race, background and other factors and therefore there would be two levels of justice.
Do the two of you agree with this or are you keeping the situation whereby all are treated the same without perspective or bias. - Mark, Northallerton, Money Laundering
Following the nationwide crackdown on money laundering and illegal businesses. What action is being taken to address illegal businesses on our high streets? - Philippa, Long Preston, Road Safety
What more can be done to sort the issue of speeding traffic on the A65 between Long Preston and Settle? Despite having complained numerous times to the police about this problem nothing seems to be done. I believe there must now be a case for the speed limit to be reduced on this road, and/or speed cameras to be installed. - George, Sherburn in Elmet, Speed camera vans
I often see vans with cameras on them at the side of long straight sections of A-road and when approaching I am bombarded by oncoming vehicles flashing their lights.
What level of resources are put into camera vans and is this an effective use of resources? - Jason, York, Staffing
Over the last few years it has felt increasingly difficult to meet local police forces at public meetings and there is a perception of there being less of a police presence in general. Do you think that the big uplift in staffing numbers you’ve announced will change this or will it continue to be a struggle? - Cllr Dave Merrett, York, Neighbourhood Policing
Can you outline the changes to the neighbourhood policing teams covering Guildhall ward please? - John, Richmond, PCSOs
Why are there more PCSO’s in Richmond/Catterick than attested Police Officers?
Furthermore, I have noticed that PCSO’s are regularly requesting information on social media with regards criminal activity within the area quoting a crime number and to contact them.
I do not pay over £3000 per year in community charges, to have a police service provided primarily by PCSO’s who are not trained, or employed to deal with investigations. - Deborah, Scarborough, Staffing
How many of the new PC’s will be based in Scarborough? The same goes for the new PCSO’s? Also, is it possible to know how many of both will be based in Whitby too, please? - Cllr Anna Baxter, York, Neighbourhood policing
With the welcome increase in PCs and PCSOs following the neighbourhood policing review and funding boost from Mayor Skaith, could the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime outline how this will make women and girls, in my ward of Hull Road, and the wider York area, feel safer. - Cllr John Moroney, York, Anti Social Behaviour
Please can you detail the response to increased gang activities, ASB and fire setting in Hull Road Ward? Also, would it be possible for the Fire Service to routinely share the times and sites of fire setting incidents with our local police team to improve cross service coordination? Thank you. - Greta, Pickering, Road Safety
I would like to know what the chief constables thoughts are on road safety. How many deaths have there been that are not related to the roads vs How many people have been killed on our roads in 2025?
It feels like our roads are the biggest threat to life in North Yorkshire but that collisions and their consequences are accepted. I know roads policing numbers have been reduced dramatically over a number of years but surely this is an area that needs investment not just from the police but from others who can promote road safety and help save lives.
