The focus of this month’s meeting
2:30-4:00pm – North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
- ‘Right people – Right support in Rural areas’
How the Service has aligned its resources and capabilities to the range of risks presented in rural areas to ensure it has the ‘right people with the right training, skills and equipment, in the right place at the right time to provide the right intervention’ (covering response, prevention and protection).
This meeting will focus on:
- A look at the latest performance data in areas of public interest and a report on complaints made against North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
- An in-depth discussion on a key theme of public concern identified in line with the fire and rescue priorities.
- An opportunity for Commissioner Zoë to raise issues that matter to the public for discission with Chief Officers.
- An update on the progress made against the latest independent inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services to provide Commissioner Zoë and the public with evidence of improvements.
- A dedicated question and answer time for Commissioner Zoë to ask the Chief and senior leadership team the questions submitted by members of the public.

Each monthly Public Meeting we are seeing that On-Call Availability is low across the board. The same stations are low. Why has the CFO not being made accountable to the public on these regular occurrences.
With the RRM changes starting in the York area happening w/c 27th November, what assurances to the residents and businesses of York that they are going to be safe. Providing now that now the area is going to be two Wholetime appliances 24/7 and two On-Call appliances 24/7. Acomb On-Call has been off the run for quite sometime due to only having one Crew Manager to which his Incident Command ticket has ran out.
As a resident and long time observer of NYFRS, this does not give me any assurances that anyone is being accountable - Claire
Thank you for the opportunity to raise questions. North Yorkshire is a beautiful county with many Bridleways, but often to reach them some road riding is necessary. I have read the policy to reduce road crashes, but there is no mention anywhere of equestrian road users. I find this a really unacceptable omission. Equestrians along with pedestrians and cyclists are vulnerable road users. North Yorkshire attracts tourists, many arrive in the countryside from the urban areas where they are familiar with cyclists and pedestrians, but have not encountered equestrians. This is not an excuse for their behaviour, but a possible reason for it making inclusion all the more imperative. Rural drivers need reminders too. There is a real need for equestrian road users to be included in all policies related to road safety. Are you going to ensure equestrian road users are included in all road safety initiatives in future?
